In The Late 1950s, The Economic Growth Potential Of Thailand And Myanmar Are Quite Similar. Theyhave The Same Labor, Natural Resources And Productivity. However, Over Fifty Years Later, The Level Of Economic Growth, They Are Very Different. Although Thailand Has A Gdp Of 545.8 Billion Dollars Andan Annual Growth Of 6.9% Over The Next Five Years, Myanmar #5 S Economy Has Grown Less Than Twopercent And Gdp Of About $ 76.2 Billion. In Addition, Thailand Has Opened An Export-orientedeconomy And Developed Infrastructure. In 2004, Thailand And The United States Began To Considerthe Possibility Of A Free Trade Agreement. Moreover, Despite The Vast Natural Resources, Burma Hasbeen Unable To Achieve Half Of What The Neighbors Have Done. State Controlled Economy Myanmarsuffered Serious Macroeconomic Problems, The Black Market Almost As Large As The Official Economyand U.s. Economic Sanctions. Obviously, Its Development Path Has Led Them To Places That Are Verydifferent.this Being So, This Article Will Attempt To Answer Why The Economies Of Both Countries Are Verysimilar Otherwise So Different Now. Some Of The Issues To Be Discussed Along This Work Will Be: Whythailand #5 S Economy Has Been More Successful Than Burma? What Are The Main Differences Socio-political And Economic Relations Between The Two? What Strategies Has Adopted The Twogovernments To Achieve Economic Growth? The Main Argument Of This Paper Is That Thailand Hasbeen More Successful Than The Burmese In Large Part Due To The Ability Of The Elite To Adopt Astrategy That Combines Economic And Personal Goals Of Individuals With The Realities Of History,culture Social And Thailand. Thailand Elites Play A Key Role In Transforming Thailand Into A Modernstate. Moreover, The Influence Of Leadership In Developing Myanmar Burma Was Not Enough If Notnegative For Incompetence Corruption And Poor Social And Economic Context In Which It Operates.
