Abstract

Pedagogical Decision-making Is The Essence Of Teachers’ Professional Practice. It Refers To The Process Of Thinking And Reasoning That Constitutes The Basis And Justification For Choosing Among Available Alternatives, Based On Considerations That Is Hoped To Bring About Effective And Meaningful Learning For The Learners. However The Fundamental Question Is, How Do Teachers Make Pedagogical Decisions And What Is The Relationship Between Teachers’ Pedagogical Decision-making Qualities And The Resulting Character Of Teaching-learning Process? The Chapter Attempts To Discuss This Question In The Context Of Data Obtained From A Funded Research Study In Malaysia. The Research Actually Explores Teacher Pedagogical Decision-making By Teachers Teaching Malay Language, English Language, Mathematics, Science, And History. However This Chapter Only Discusses The Pedagogical Decision-making Qualities And Processes Of History Teachers Vis-a-vis Their Pedagogical Practices And Challenges. The Discussion Offers A Critical Analysis Of The Findings Based On A Synthesis Of Data, Obtained From Teacher Narratives, Observation Reports On The Teaching Of History And Interviews, From Seventeen History Teachers. The Discourse Explores The Attributes Of History Teachers’ Pedagogical Decision-making Qualities In Relation To Specific Attributes: Teaching Experience And Knowledge Of History Teachers, Teacher Beliefs, Accountability, Contradictions And Tensions, Passion, Student’s Ability And Learning Styles, And Prioritization. It Further Discusses How These Attributes Influence And Impact On The Character Of The Lesson.
