Abstract

A headmaster is a leader of a primary school and the determinant factor of success in every aspects of the primary school. He holds major duties and responsibilities in ensuring that the teachers complete their tasks in educating the students well and making sure that the students can study successfully. Besides that, a headmaster should also make sure that the physical aspects of the school are clean, neat, safe and adequate. To fulfill these challenging tasks, a headmaster has to be excellent in administrating his school. Because of that, a headmaster who has the entrepreneurship characteristics is a headmaster who can succeed in administrating his school. This is because an entrepreneur is usually creative, innovative, understands the risks and competitions, able to get hold of opportunities and giving others opportunities especially teachers and students in his school. This study is done to attempt the competency analysis of self-entrepreneurship of 106 headmasters who has participated or are still participating in the Teachers’ Post-Graduating Special Program in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. In this study, the headmasters (the respondents) have been given questionnaires to evaluate their self-entrepreneurship competency by themselves. 13 characteristics of entrepreneurship which consists of 70 questions have been given to the headmasters. The entrepreneurship characteristics are initiative, the observing and seizing of opportunities, perseverance, information retrieval, high work quality focus, duty commitment, orientation towards higher capability, systematic planning, problem solving qualities, confidence, resoluteness, good persuasion capabilities and the ability to use influence strategy. The study showed that the entrepreneurship characteristics within the headmasters are average and poor in initiative” and information retrieval”. It is suggested that the education of entrepreneurship is added to the preparation courses for headmasters so that they can be social entrepreneurs who can always opportunities and provide opportunities to teachers and students in their respective schools.
