Abstract

The main aim of this research was to determine the effects of the laboratory manual developed for the Form 4 Biology students in the topic of carbohydrates. Laboratory teaching using the laboratory manual developed is compared to the conventional teaching method. 60 respondents from Form 4 Biology were chosen. 30 students were instructed using the laboratory manual and the other 30 were instructed using the conventional method. The t-test showed that there is a significant difference in the achievement level of students who received conventional instruction and students that were instructed using the laboratory manual. The null hypothesis is rejected at p<0.05. The p-value obtained was 6.028x10-6. Thus, the results showed that teaching and learning using the laboratory manual is more effective compared to the conventional teaching method. Besides that, the results of the study showed that the students using the laboratory manual acquired observational skills.
